Connect with National Center for Epidemiology:
With a staff of 250, the National Center for Epidemiology (NCE) focuses primarily on epidemiologic and microbiological research and surveillance of infectious diseases, with a priority on vaccine-preventable diseases. The institute’s top priority is to maintain a high coverage rate in mandatory vaccination. The institute is made up of five divisions: Epidemiology, Quality Control of Immunobiological Products, Virology; Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology; and Typing. It is a body for the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and member of the Epidemiological Surveillance Component of the Community Network.
In 2008, NCE modernized its IT system, greatly improving its efficiency in surveillance projects. During this time, the institute created its first BSL 3-4 laboratory. The institute also produces a weekly bulletin, Epinfo, which provides up-to-date information and data for a wide spectrum of health care workers.
