The National Center of Preventive Medicine’s major role in Russia is to prevent the spread of non-communicable diseases (NDCs). Together with the Ministry of Health, the centre works to improve health standards and the regulatory processes of health services. Last year they developed a demonstration NCD prevention program in Oblast.
The National Centre of Preventive Medicine’s 800 person staff works in seven departments: epidemiology, prevention in primary care, secondary prevention, laboratory standardization, biochemistry, genetics, and coordination. The current director is Professor Sergej Boytsov, an internal medicine specialist and cardiologist.
