Institute Profile

In February 2015, Dr. Joseph Kasonde, the Zambian Minister of Health, announced the launch of the Zambian National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), which aims to provide leadership and coordination for public health while strengthening public health functions at the national level.  ZNPHI serves as the nation’s center for public health activity that works to achieve effective surveillance, research, human resource training, and policy. The core public health functions of the ZNPHI are: 

  • Developing and utilizing applicable skills in biostatistics
  • Prioritizing research that contributes to public health and policy
  • Monitoring and evaluating diseases and risks to public health
  • Implementing health programs that increase quality of life
