Institute Profile

Under the management of the Ministry of Health (MoH) the Public Health Center (PHC) of Ukraine seeks to improve the quality of life and health of Ukrainians. PHC consists of a number of institutions and public enterprises within the MoH that work to execute its core public health functions. It is based on the study of international experience and is modeled after the European and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. PHC was established in conjunction with existing research institutes of hygienic and epidemiological profiles of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

The Institutes key priorities include:

  • development of surveillance and epidemiological monitoring system;
  • introducing prevention programs: vaccination, screening for early diagnostics of oncology risks, overcoming HIV, TB and other challenges of communicable diseases;
  • implementation of effective communication policies to promote a healthy lifestyle among the general population;
  • participation in shaping and strengthening the public health system at the national and regional levels;
  • optimization of laboratory capacity on the regional level
