In July 2014, the African Society of Laboratory Medicine recognized the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) for its commitment to excellence in research and laboratory strengthening.
KEMRI, a longtime IANPHI member institute, became an ASLM Collaborating Centre in 2013, as a result of the institute’s commitment to achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals, facilitation of the “development of regulatory policy, protocols, standard operating procedures and guidance documents”, and promotion of South-South collaboration, along with other activities.
Through an interview with Dr. Clement Zeh, KEMRI’s principal investigator for the KEMRI-ASLM collaboration, ASLM highlights the historical background and current activities and functions of KEMRI, including its internationally accredited HIV and TB research laboratories. IANPHI commends KEMRI for its strong commitment to laboratory research in public health.
