In April, Portugal's Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHTM) will host its third annual National Congress on Tropical Medicine, on April 20-21 at the IHTM in Lisbon. In recognition of recent outbreaks of dengue fever and other vector-borne diseases in lusophone countries, this year's congress will focus on vector-borne diseases, and will include discussion of "arboviruses, tick-borne diseases, filariasis, leishmaniasis, malaria and nanotechnology in the diagnosis and prevention of vector-borne diseases" in Portugal, other lusophone countries, and around the world. According to the meeting's Scientific Committee President, Dr. Lenea Campino, the purpose of the National Congress is to "create a place of discussion of best practice in Portugal, Lusophone countries, and our other international scientific partners."
